The company was established in 1989 under the name of the Saudi Formaldehyde Chemicals Company as the first petrochemical company from the private sector in the GCC countries, then the name of the company was changed to Methanol Chemicals Company (Kemanol) following the successful IPO in 2008. It is a public Saudi joint stock company listed on the Saudi Stock Exchange with a paid-up capital of SAR 674,508,630. The company is located in Jubail Industrial City. Its total annual production is about one million tons. It exports 26 diversified products to more than 50 countries in more than 21 different industries.

Today, Chemanol is one of the world's best, most integrated and reliable producers of methanol and its derivatives, one of the largest producers of formaldehyde in one location in the world, and the largest in the GCC.

Chemanol manufactures high quality methanol derivatives such as aqueous urea formaldehyde solution and concentrate, chemical plasticizers, amino resins, hexamethylene tetramine, paraformaldehyde, dimethylformamide, methylamines, pentaerythritol and sodium formate. These products are used in many fields such as agriculture, automobile industry, medicine, and construction.
